New Team…Pine View High School!

Taylor has made the roster of the Pine View High School Girls’ Soccer Team!!!!!!!!!!  She has been very nervous the past two days of tryouts and afterwards we sat under a tree waiting for the sign to go up on the door. Taylor got tired of being nervous and waiting, so she went to fill her water bottle.  Knowing that a watched pot never boils, we knew the sheet would be put up while she was gone, and we were right.  We watched as some very happy girls danced away and saw a few that were very sad.  We saw Taylor come out so Tonya and Taylor walked slowly to the door, I don’t think Taylor wanted to look but when Tonya put her hand up to give a high five, I knew things were good.

I made the list!!!!

Taylor wanted a picture, so I came over and snapped a very happy shot.  Now the adventure begins, practice every morning at 8:15 until school starts! PV’s first game is August 13th here, however, for relatives up North, she has a game on August 14th at Pleasant Grove High School. The PV Soccer schedule is on the right hand side of The TechFamily page.

Night at the Ballpark

And the pitch...

Taylor and I went to the Roadrunners game last night. It has been a couple of years since we went to a baseball game, so we felt we needed to catch back up.
I had a Bratwurst and Taylor had a chicken Sandwich. Then we had Nachos and then Ice Cream, it was great!
The game was going pretty well, the team was up 4-1, then the wind kicked in and by the bottom of the fourth, it started to sprinkle, I was hoping that the team could hold onto the lead and then the game could end in a rain delay. At the middle of the 5th, the Roadrunners lead 6-5 and the rain was coming down pretty hard. But then it stopped and everything went downhill from there.

Dad & Daughter Shot

The starting pitcher for the Roadrunners got tired and started walking batters more than usual, they replaced him and the relief pitchers started walking almost everyone. Taylor has early morning soccer conditioning and I go to work early, so as it was nearly 10:00pm and only in the top of the 7th, we decided it was time to go home. As we listened to the game on the ride home, they walked several straight and suddenly the score was 10-6 for the bad guys, what a waste. The Roadrunners eventually lost 10-8. As we drove home, we drove into the rain so it was a nice cool night.

Crowd?

The Crowd, as usual was very small, even though they were offering kids free with paying adults (which BTW, doesn’t apply to teenagers we found out) The ones that were there were having fun, until the rain of course, then it was basically only kids and the die-hards.
But we had a fun night!

1st Round of HCG Diet

Posted by Scott | Posted in Scott News, Taylor News | Posted on 01-03-2010

I finished up the first round of my diet over the weekend. I ended up losing 34.6 pounds, putting my weight at 206.4, which is the lightest I have been in my married life! I eventually will do another round, as my goal weight is to be 183 (my weight when I was a sophomore and junior in high school). It is so much fun to weigh less. We actually started eating semi-normally on Sunday, and I actually lost a pound! One thing I have found, it takes a LOT less food to make me full now. We had lettuce wrapped burgers for lunch yesterday, and I could barely eat one. Now I know I cannot push it as if I do I will be able to eat more and more, but if I do everything in moderation, I will be ok. I have also noticed that my blood sugar is back in the normal range, hopefully that will last.
The one problem I am having is that none of my pants fit. I have to wear a belt with my 36″ pants and don’t even get me started on my suit, which has size 42″ pants. I am going to the store this week to see if I truly can wear 34″‘s, which would be the first time since high school, I am excited about that. The goal is 32′s, but that is a little ways off still.
Changing gears (hah!) Tonya won us 2 tickets to the NASCAR Nationwide race is Las Vegas last weekend, so Taylor and I went to watch the race with 70,000 of our closest friends :-) . When we got there, all the Sprint Cup guys where practicing, so we got to see Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordan, Tony Stewart(My Favorite), Dale Jr., Joey Logano (Taylor’s favorite), etc. That was real exciting! The race had Kyle Busch and Danica Patrick, so we were happy. It is really neat to watch a race in person, you can feel the wind from the cars and definately hear the cars, it is SO MUCH BETTER than watching the race on TV. We had a fun time.
Coming home, there was a huge wreck on I-15 about 15 minutes from Mesquite, both lanes were a parking lot, so Taylor and I watched almost the entire movie Transformers on my cell phone, there was only about 20 minutes left when we finally got moving again, a Suburban must have lost their trailer when we finally got up to the accident.

Taylor’s Soccer Journey Continues…We Hope!

Taylor begins playing on Monday with the Strikers FC! This is a team comprised mostly of the Pine View High JV team. We are excited for her to have this chance to get to know the girls and coaches she will hopefully be playing with in high school. She is excited too! More than she should have been, probably…but that’s a long story.

This is a competitive league and they will likely play in the Summer Games in 2010, as well as some regional qualifying tournaments. It will be a bit pricey, but the team is looking at doing some fundraisers, so that will help. I think of it as a good investment. :-)

There is only one catch–I probably should have mentioned that earlier–and that is: She is only 13 years old and she may be playing against 18 year olds which the league has to approve with a signed waiver from us. So all of this pending that approval. The good news is that the coach already told us that even if she can’t “officially” play with the team, she can still come to practices and work out with them. So it’s all good, but better if she can actually play!

I’m excited for her! And for us too! What would we do without soccer to keep us busy? Or maybe I should say distracted? Anyway…we love it!

Electric Blue

You know how when your kids are small and you child-proof your house and you especially watch them around electrical outlets because they’re really dangerous? Well, nobody tells you that you need to keep warning your kids well into their older years too.

Yesterday at school, Taylor was in her TLC class doing a lights and lasers module. She went to plug in the machine she was using and the electrical outlet pretty much exploded. She got quite a shock! She said she saw “blue fire” all around the outlet and it hurt quite a bit. Her friends told her that her legs were shaking and her eyes were dilated. Mr. Mitchell told her to call me which she did.

I don’t know if your kid has ever called you and said, “I was electrocuted at school today” but I wasn’t really prepared to hear this. She sounded all right and there was only an hour of school left, so I told her to go find the school nurse and get checked out and call me back.   The nurse thought she was fine, her heart rate was a little high, but she was feeling shocky (no pun intended) so I decided to go pick her up  and bring her home just to be on the safe side.

When I got to the school, she was being wheeled down the hallway on a chair by her teacher and the school nurse.  She was acting as though she might pass out at any moment.  There may have been a little extra drama going on, but we got her out of the school and into the car and home, where she slept it off for a while.   Her principal called a while later to see if she was doing okay.  Taylor was happy about that.

She was fine after a few hours, in fact, she went to play Ward basketball later in the evening.  That wasn’t the best idea however since she felt pretty crappy when she got back.

Today, she was glad to see how many people had heard what happened and were worried about her.  She was a little freaked out by the fact that she “almost died.”  I told her to ask for extra credit in her TLC class, after all, how many people get electrocuted in class, it should be worth a few “experience points!”  When she asked her teacher, he said he already posted the points to her grade!  LOL.  Besides repairing the outlet/cord, that was the least he could do!

PS–Taylor wanted everyone to know that this in NOT an actual photo, but was just her mom being dumb!!! LOL :)

Family Home(out and about) evening

Last night as a family we went to the Temple Visitor’s Center where they had a display of a bunch of statues of biblical and historical scenes.  There was a really nice lifesize statue of Jesus called “Come unto me” that had Jesus reaching out his hand to us and the really neat thing about it was that Jesus had stepped forward to reach out to you, you didn’t have to come all the way to meet him.  Very nice thought.  Was a very nice scene of Jesus walking on the water, the way she designed the sea to be wild and violent everywhere except where Jesus was walking was very beautiful.  There was also a very nice statue of a person learning the steps of repentance and finally coming to Christ. Lastly, the scene in the Sacred Groove was, in my opinion, the best.  It had trees surrounding the whole thing, and Jesus and Heavenly Father appear to be floating in the middle of it. Very nicely done.

Afterwards we went out to dinner at Olive Garden’s, where once again, Shaylie barely ate anything.  Today we will probably go to the REC Center, we love to swim, plus we need to get our money’s worth out of having a membership for this month.

Tonight is train club meeting, we are having it at Jim’s house and we will be finishing the track.  Tonya has possibly her last Primary Presidency Meeting.  It is likely that this weekend we will redrawing ward and stake boundaries, So it would make geographic sense to split our ward down the middle, but we will see.  Have to go setup the training room so that people can learn the new eREP program that they are using.

See ya

Taylor’s Dance Concert

1

Posted by Scott | Posted in Taylor News | Posted on 13-05-2008

Taylor had her dance concert last night.  We may put videos up, but more about that later.  As you remember, Taylor danced her routine at school about a month ago.  Well, she did it last night, however it was only a minute long?! Practice every week for a minute routine? Interesting.  Then, she had her other routine, that was really great until the music cut completely out, they stood there for a minute and then Taylor got the rest of the group to start dancing from that point, however they were all told to go back to starting position which they did. They put in the backup cd and the girls again did their performance, however, the music cut out again at the exact same place and this time Taylor remembered the most important saying from finding nemo, “just keep swimming, just keep swimming” and did the whole rest of the dance without music. They got the loudest applause of everyone of the night, and they did a great job considering what they were dealt. Very proud of Taylor.

Here is Taylor’s performance, you will probably need a high-speed connection to see it.

1-0

So much for worrying!  Taylor had her first game of the season, they had barely practiced, and yet won with a shutout 1-0.  As low scoring as that was, it was a total domination by Taylor’s team.  The ball only crossed mid-field twice and barely made it to the penalty box.  Needless to say, Taylor didn’t even touch the ball.  After the game, Taylor yelled, “That was the most boring game EVER!” It turned out that Taylor had two of her old teammates with her, and you could tell they lead the way.

Funny thing was, the game before ours had two of Taylor’s old teammates on one team and five on the other (Ivy was one of the five). That was the team that Taylor wanted to move unto, but I said she needed to stay and fight it out.  Wellllll, that team lost!  What was funny though, one of Taylor’s teammates said, well if we would have had a better goalie (namely Taylor) they wouldn’t have lost.  Great to hear good things about my daughter.

Turns out that Ivy lives close to us, so Taylor is going to be much happier with her friend situation out here in the fields.

In other news, we pulled all the weeds in our backyard and took a load out to the dump, so it is looking better at home.
